John Bel Edwards

Governor of Louisiana

John Bel Edwards serves as the Governor of Louisiana. His political career started in 2008, when he was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives, representing District 72 in Louisiana’s North Shore region. Despite being a freshman legislator, he was selected to lead the House Democratic Caucus and to Chair the House Veterans Affairs Committee. Governor Edwards graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He served eight years as an Airborne Ranger on active duty with the United States Army and commanded a rifle company in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC. He went on to graduate Order of the Coif from Louisiana State University Law Center and set up a civil law practice in his hometown of Amite.
