Jay Famiglietti,

Mr. Famiglietti is the Senior Water Scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology. Before moving to JPL, Famiglietti was a Professor of earth system science at the University of California, Irvine, and a Professor of geological sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. In 2013, Famiglietti was appointed to California’s State Water Board by Governor Jerry Brown. He is a hydrologist who uses satellites and develops advanced computer models to track how freshwater availability is changing globally.  His team’s pioneering work on remote sensing of groundwater depletion has influenced water management decisions from California to India. Famiglietti is a regular advisor to the U. S. Congress and the California Governor’s Office on water availability and water security issues.
