THE US INTERSTATE 10 CORRIDOR PROVIDES THE MOST COMPELLING WINDOW ON THE FUTURE OF THE COUNTRY, ONE WHICH PRESENTS THE CHALLENGES OF THE 21ST CENTURY IN THEIR HIGHEST RELIEF.
This singular transect strings together many of the most pressing societal, economic, urban and environmental topics of our time. A project spanning the entire continent, Ten Across (10X) is propelled by the idea of this region as a living laboratory for resilience, adaptation, and innovation.
THE VARIED GEOGRAPHY OF THE 10X STUDY AREA IS ON THE LEADING EDGE OF CLIMATE CHANGE, AS ESPECIALLY EVIDENCED BY THE TOPIC OF WATER. THE 10X PROJECT INTERSECTS WITH INCREASINGLY ARID CONDITIONS IN CALIFORNIA AND THE SOUTHWEST, COASTAL DEGRADATION AND FLOODING IN THE GULF REGION, AND NUMEROUS MULTI-JURISDICTIONAL DISPUTES OVER WATER, MATTERS OF INCREASING URGENCY AS THIS REGION CONTINUES TO GROW IN POPULATION.
The second annual 10X Water Summit will address the realities of water including increased demand, diminishing resources, more frequent inundation, and even questions of retreat pressed by such circumstances. In addition to case studies from across the 10X spectrum and the related science, special emphasis will be placed on communication of complex and urgent issues to a public which is challenged to respond to an unprecedented flow of fact, fiction, and uncertainty.
