Sharon Weston Broome is Mayor-President of East Baton Rouge Parish. She is the first woman to be elected as the leader of the capital city of Louisiana. During her first year in office, her focus has been to unite residents around the common goals of equality in education, economic development, justice and housing. Prior to her current post, Broome served as a Baton Rouge Metro Council Member, a Louisiana State Representative, and a Louisiana State Senator. She became the first woman to hold the leadership positions of Speaker Pro Tempore in the Louisiana House and President Pro Tempore in the Louisiana Senate. Broome has a bachelor’s in mass communication from the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse, and a master’s in communications from Regent University. She was a reporter for five years for WBRZ-TV, the Baton Rouge ABC affiliate.
